chuckwalla
| BiologyBase | Herp Image Index |
This animal was in the live herpetology collection of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, during the 1980s. The chuckwalla is a large herbivorous desert iguana of the American southwest. Their major defense against predators is to hide in a rock crevasse and puff themselves up, wedging themselves so securely it's impossible for almost any predator (including humans) to get the animal out..
