In addition to being the only state that crosses into the arctic circle,
the easternmost and westernmost state of the USA, Alaska crosses the international
dateline (and the dividing line between eastern and western hemispheres)
in the Aleutian islands. Despite large-scale oil development, it is still
the state with the most "untamed" lands, and the fewest roads. Territorially,
Alaska is the largest state, being a bit bigger than Texas.
