Europe is contiguous in the east to Asia which is considered a separate continent because they lie on separate continental plates. Primarily, Europe lies east of the Ural Mountains. Europe is has a wide variety of major habitats, including the northern Taiga (boreal forest), the Mediterranean climates and habitats of southern Europe and the central European Alps, which gave the Alpine habitat it's name.
