Antarctic Ocean

BiologyBase World Map

Though  you might not think it to look at a map, it is home to many of the most important organisms on the planet.

The Antarctic Ocean supports the largest populations of the algae that produces over one half of oxygen for our atmosphere - without them, we'd suffocate. This algae is also a base for the food web that supports all the animals in the oceans of the world.

Also there are the largest populations of krill, the small crustaceans (shrimp-like animals) that support most of the great whales, and many many many other sea animals.
