In Memoriamneighbor, friend, relative
She was a great lady, and a joy to talk to. I learned a lot from her.
Her daughter, Arlene Sell, married my mother's first cousin, and so Mrs. Sell became a "real" member of the family - not that she wasn't already. We'd thought of her as such for longer than my mother, at least, can remember.
In the first week of June 1997 I visited Michigan for my own first cousins'
High School Graduation . During that visit, I pestered almost everyone I saw for information for the Family History, and I was lucky enough to interview, with the help of my grandmother and aunts, Mrs. Sell on her family for inclusion. In an unguarded moment, we were initiated into the few who knew the (apparently open) secret of her birth year, which I promised not to release while she was alive. She had expressed a wish to know more about her own family history, and with the information she gave me, I was able to spend a short time at the McNutt Memorial Library, Chelsea, Michigan and find out most of her ancestral information presented in these pages. The first thing I discovered, much to my pleasure and amazement, was that the McNutt Library is housed in a house built by Elisha Congdon, an prominent early resident of Chelsea, and Mrs. Sells great grandfather.
Unfortunately, though I was able to tell Mrs. Sell that I had found quite a lot about her family, I was unable to pass the information along to her before her death on 4 July 1997.
These pages are presented not only to include her in my Family History, but to allow others to find out where she fits in theirs.
She was a dear lady, who is missed by a great many people.
