This set of files is a genealogy and history of my ancestors, and their descendants. It is not my work alone, but the work of many many people. Some of it is from published accounts, some not. It is still very much a work in progress, and that includes putting in all the sources of the information included. I know there are some errors, including typos, in this set of documents which will be fixed as time allows, and as I catch them. Please assume everything here is undocumented, unless otherwise specified.
Passing off the RIDENOUR family to Elmer Ridenour in January 2000 allows me to focus my energies elsewhere. I think you'll find that he keeps that file up much better than I ever was able to keep mine up. Dates accompanying the names run from approximately 800 C.E. to the present.
Assume this is all the information I currently have on the people included. If you have further information on anyone here, please let me know. If you're part of my family and just want to say hello, please do so.
Originally, this Family History was started on the excellent shareware GENE genealogy program, and converted to the web using Sparrowhawk. These are both Mac programs and really terrific. However, having switched to the gosh-awful Windows world, I have recently started using Family Tree Maker, and Ultimate Family Tree for Wintel machines, but they have some limitations that I'm still working around after three years. For updates made in April 1999 I used Gedpage to format the gedcom files for display on the web (yes, I'm going to register it, it's a matter of loving it so much I put the new stuff on the web before I could even get the registration in the mail). Gedpage displays the information in family group page design, familiar to most genealogists. This isn't quite as elegant as Sparrowhawks tree diagrams, but has some advantages for me, at least. In January 2000 I've switched to Ultimate Family Tree's webformat, because it makes smaller files and I don't have to convert everything to gedcom then to html.
I particularly wish to thank my parents and grandparents who supplied me with much of the initial information and without whom I wouldn't be here or wouldn't have a computer! My brother Michael E. Hole, who has helped with many computer problems, and with many formating and other suggestions. My cousin Dennis Hole, who has his own section here, and several other cousins have contributed. Also, cousins Elmer Ridenour and Melvin Ridenour supplied much Ridenour information I used to house, and Elmer now hosts the Ridenour Page to which I defer further questions on that line. I'd also like to thank the staff of the LDS Family History Center in Las Cruces, NM, who helped forward my search on many lines in my "early" days..
