Adipose fin - small single fin located behind the dorsal fin and in front of the caudal fin on the dorsal side of the fish. Somewhat fleshy, sometimes called a "fat fin". Occurs in only some groups of fishes including salmon & trout and catfishes.
Not to be confused with a "second" dorsal fin (which would be rayed rather than fleshy) which is present in some fishes.
