Written during a course in Field Botany, at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, during Spring, 1989 which features/d twelve+ hour field trips every Friday. It was both the best and worst class I've ever taken - and I'd recommend it to anyone!

Our eyes have seen the pines and firs, now both from near and far.
We have witnessed all the Jeffrey, Ponderosa and Cedar.
We have tramped through mountain mountain meadows, keying Carex every whar,
The field trips are over at last!

We have wandered through the deserts and the marshes 'round the State.
We have run through sandy dune-lands, never guessing at our fate.
We have learned our plants galore, and for lunch we're always late

We've taken quizzes every week, and some of us do well.
The rest of us keep trying, even though we know they're hell.
But even so we keep on thinking the T. A.'s rather swell.

We've seen cacti, Arctostaphylos and Artemesia.
We've learned grasses by the dozen, there's enough to drop your jaw.
There are little bushes gray and green, and even three Yucca!
