Scientific name: Anhinga anhinga Also called "snakebirds", the anhinga are generally uncommon but can be seen along watercourses in southern North America. There name of snakebird comes from their swimming. with just their neck and head above the water. The feathers are not waterproof, so the bird "sinks" with it's back just below the water's surface.
