American Bittern

The American Bittern a small heron that is rarely seen within its hiding place of reeds along the shoreline. The brown and white streaky breast and neck, and the habit of the bird to hold still with it's neck stretched and beak pointing straight up, works as excellent camouflage. More commonly you can hear a bittern's resounding booming call.
