Bob's Birding Adventures

Trip List
January 2002

January 23rd - Mitchell Canyon, Mt. Diablo State Park, Clayton, Contra Costa County, California

Said by many to be one of the best places to bird for landbirds in Contra Costa County, this canyon is quite nice. I went on a cool winter day and only spent a noon-hour, so don't go by this list. Besides, it's supposed to be best in spring.

To get there, find Clayton Road in Concord heading for Clayton. Turn right on Mitchell Canyon Road and drive to the end. There's a fee for parking, and no parking along the road leading to the park. There's a quarry near the park entrance, be careful of the big trucks along the road there..
