Birds of New Mexico by Stan Tekiela is part of a series of books on each of the U.S. States. Overall the series is not bad and the information is generally sound. |
New Mexico Vegetation by William Dick-Peddie
|
New Mexico Birds an Introduction is a small pamphlet designed for the traveler or beginner. It's a good quick reference for carrying in the glove compartment or your backpack especially if you're visiting the state. |
Amphibians and Reptiles of New Mexico by W. G. Degenhardt, Charles W. Painter & Andrew H. Price
|
Arizona and New Mexico Birds by Kurt and Cindy Rademaker is a nice basic guide to the birds of the desert southwest. |
New Mexico Wildlife by James Kavanaugh

Kaufman Guide to Birds of North America by Kenn Kaufman. If I only get to carry one, this is my preferred field guide to North American birds. Handy in size, scope and clarity. This is the book I think all birders should have. I've gone through several copies. |

Kingbird Highway by Kenn Kaufman is a marvelous adventure. If you don't
think you like tales of birding adventures, try this one. It's a great
tale of an epic adventure crossing North America looking for birds. I
believe it's the first of the “big year” books and I know it's still the
best. |
The Sibley Guide to Birds by David Sibley is a “super” field guide. It has lots of great information and should be on every North American birders shelf. It's really to big, though, to take into the field unless you just have it in the car for reference (and you should have it in the car for reference). |
The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America by David Sibley is a paired-down version of the Sibley Guide to Birds. Because it doesn't cover all of the continent some people find it frustrating and some people find it more useful. |
The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America by David Sibley is a paired-down version of the Sibley Guide to Birds. Because it doesn't cover all of the continent some people find it frustrating and some people find it more useful. |
