A Day at the Perth Royal Show

August 1, 2016 By Admin Leave a Comment

Submitted by Shelly W. of South Perth

Something different. Here’s a quick blurb of my day at the Perth Royal Show, BUT with no photos! Why? I’d like to call it “word visualisation”!

What a day! What a day! The Perth royal show only comes around once a year and this year I was determined to make the most of it! I entered the show through gate 8, straight into the Sheep shearing and wool pavilion, the dexterity and speed of the sheep shearers immediately astounded me, how they managed to keep complete control of the animals while never missing a beat in their shearing was most admirable, I could have watched for hours but alas I had much to cover and only a single day, so on I moved, jumping onto the train and zipping around past the racing diving pigs, past all form of creature great and small and finally onto the dairy pavilion and milking station! Having never seen a cow milked up close before, this was quite the experience. But the attending farmers never hesitated, never paused; they worked with a concentration and smooth competence that clearly came from a lifetime in the industry.

Ahead I saw a bustle of people; intrigued I followed the crowd (and my nose) through the Western Australia Centenary Pavilion and straight into the cookery section of the show, and what a section it was! All manner of delicacies abounded and delicious aromas assaulted my nose at every turn; the talented chefs stirred, flipped and grilled their way through all manner of dishes with a casual air that barely belied the underlying need for speed. A roar caught my attention, and continuing on I found the dinosaur adventure area, a quirky child filled area that had been well set up, however my attention was quickly drawn to the main arena, where all manner of show was being conducted, slowly circling this to ensure I got the best possible view, I was astounded by the wide variety of people in attendance, it seemed people from all walks of life had shown up in support of the Perth Royal Show.

Passing through the member’s grandstand I headed my now tired legs past all the show bags and onto my final stop for the day, I had saved my favourite viewing for last – the dog pavilion, and right next to it, the agility and obedience dog lawn. Each owner standing oh so proudly next to their beautifully groomed furry friends, each dog sitting patiently, waiting their turn to jump, duck and weave thorough the agility course. The clear effort each owner had put into their animals for the day was inspiring, matched with the variety of pavilions made the Perth Royal Show a perfect day for me!

Why I Love Taking Photos of My Car

July 21, 2016 By Admin Leave a Comment

An article submitted by John B. of Edgewater:

She sits on my driveway, shining, sparkling in her absolute perfection in the midmorning sun. Her curves and edges are sleek and there’s not a spot of dirt to be found on her… She takes up much of my time, but I can’t help myself for wanting to improve her in every way. My Car, she’s my first, surely not my last, but for now, my most cherished possession. Finding the perfect setting to set off her colours, curves and highlight my newest improvements to her is one of my favourite activities.

My ultimate goal is to create an image a step above the rest, to show the world that my car, while maybe not the fanciest, can match and supersede those around her. It is in this mindset that I spend the time to black her wheels and shine her hubs; I spend the money to kit her out the latest parts, and am always hunting for the perfect spot to photograph her. There is something special about finding the perfect lighting, the perfect setting, the perfect angle and getting that one absolutely perfect shot. Whether its photos for me or for others, capturing my cars’ innate beauty fills me with an indescribable pride. I love being able to answer with a resounding YES! When people look flabbergasted at my photos asking “is that really your car?!” The sense of satisfaction and pride that fills me is almost indescribable. Photos of my car feel to me like a physical reminder of what I have spent so much time, effort and money trying to achieve. Editing my photos of my car is almost as exciting as taking them in the first place, learning the tricks of the trade – such as darkening the corners of the photo to make the car stand out more – fills me with a deep-rooted sense of accomplishment.

Overall, I love my car, how could I not? The time and effort I put into making her the absolute best she can be is paid back to me in the beauty shown in every picture I take. Each angle is a whole new world of opportunity, each backdrop a new adventure into the world of car photography. There are few things I love more than taking the perfect photo of my car.

Local Perth Removalists

June 22, 2016 By Admin Leave a Comment

When it comes to being corporate, it usually means being together as one. One vision for all. So what better way to show unity than a team photo shoot! Now, most of you out there will say that a team photo shoot is kinda lame. You know, too cliche… and to be honest, I also think that way. But here’s a twist: it doesn’t have to be flashy to send that strong message of unity.

So here’s where a local Perth Removalists company demonstrate exactly what I mean. A simple, amateur shot of the ground staff sends a strong message of a cohesive team (I did ask them if I can share their photo on my blog, but they kindly declined – a decision that I have to respect; even if I myself am a photographer). As they say, a picture paints a thousand word! Back track several years ago, this removals company started of with just one computer and one truck. Fast forward many years later, then have in excess of fifteen removal trucks on the road. That translates to a lot of moves! Starting with a couple of ground staff helping with the moves, now they boast more than twenty staff on board. With quality in mind, the removalists employed need to have at least two years work experience.

Not only they have expanded in staff number and fleet size, they have also moved to a new facility that is pretty much purpose built for a service company like this. With plenty of room for the trucks and also ample of space for storage use. In fact, this removals company has expanded the services they offer to include storage units. What these storage units allow are the storage of multiple items in secured box units. Don’t get me wrong, some of the storage units are pretty big. There are some custom sized to store cars, both everyday cars to classic vintage cars.

Their removal service also includes preparation for the move, such as packing and boxing. But if it was me, I’ll most likely do it myself. Save money and time whilst waiting for the truck to arrive. But it also allows some privacy for my personal belongings, the fact that they are prepacked; not allowing other people to see what I’m carrying on board.  Think about it, if you let the removalists pack ’em (which some people do prefer and nothing wrong with that!), they can see your items! So it doesn’t allow any form of privacy. But I am sure these mob will look after you really good!

Lavish Limos Perth Extravaganza!

May 27, 2016 By Admin Leave a Comment

Having a colourful event is music to the ears of photographers. Vividly bright colours, awesome backdrop and beautiful people; pretty much all of the ingredients you need for a perfect photoshot. In this post, I’d like to feature a well established limo hire business right here in Perth trading as Lavish Limousines. Owner Damian contacted me and requested for a featured post and promised to share some of his awesome photos that he took whilst pampering his customers in his magnificent looking limos. And to be honest with you, how can I say no to this offer? I’ do anything to publish beautiful photos on my site! So… of course I said yes! It’s a win-win thing for the both of us. He gets to promote his limo business and  I get to show my readers examples of what beautiful photos look like.

Lavish Limousines are your go to people when it comes to making your lavish dream a reality. They’ve got a variety of limousines to cater for whatever occassion you have in mind. Whether its your wedding, school ball, birthday, hen’s night or corporate events; Lavish Limos Perth will look after you! As mentioned previously, the owner Damian did promise me to share some of his photos. Just scroll down a little . By all means, view the photos at your leisure but please bear in mind that they are owned by Damian. So please do not swipe his photos. Anyone caught doing so will face a hefty smack! And that is putting it lightly!

Let’s start with weddings, it is arguably the single most important event for many people. It is an event that many are willing to fork some extra dollars to make it the most memorable day of their life. People want style and sophistication to add that extra touch to make it an awesome extravaganza. Simply add a limo to your arsenal and arrive in style, there is no doubt that you will be the talk of town. Make no mistake about it! Don’t believe me? check out the awesome pic below (courtesy of Lavish Limo Hire):

So now you’re a believer? how awesome does the photo above look? Freaking top notch stuff if you ask me. Notice the angle of the shot? the composition of the foreground, in my opinion is spot on. Many would argue that the near side on view of the stretched limousine is somewhat ok, I disagree! But each to their own.

Now let’s look at another occasion where a limo pic would excel when it comes to having a near perfect composition: your school ball. Just take a look at the shot below:

I’m sure you’d agree that the shot above looks relatively simple but to my eyes it represented many things. Some of the things that came to mind was youth, memories and fun. Come on, how many of you still remember the good old days. The fact that you still remember the day fondly makes the event worthy of taking a snap.

I’m sure that Damian has in his possession many other magnificent photos. But the fact he even shared a couple with us is a blessing. Once again, I’d like to say a big thank you for the generosity of Lavish Limousines.

Taking a Better Photo

May 25, 2016 By Admin Leave a Comment

One of the many questions I get asked is how to take a better photo. Depending on who you talk to, many people will have different opinions about this. But personally, my simple advice is to take an extra couple of seconds to compose better. Think about what you can include in the frame, rather than taking a hasty shot right there and then. You’ll be amazed on how much better it looks by taking your time to think about its composition.

Here are some stuff to think about before taking your shot:

  • Background – this is probably the very first thing people look at prior to taking the shot, that is because the background is what you see most of when looking at something in front of you – so it comes to no surprise that it is usually the very first thing that comes to mind of a photographer.
  • Foreground – choosing what goes into the foreground of a photo can make it a considerably awesome photo. Because the foreground is at the front of the frame, make sure you take a couple of seconds more to choose the best subject (as the foreground focus).
  • Subject focus – normally, the biggest mistake that many amateur photographers make is to put the subject focus right smack in the middle of the frame. Although there is nothing wrong by doing this, but some shots looks better by off centering the subject focus. It is done so that the background/foreground also gets the required attention.

The stuff I explained above are my personal opinions! So go easy!

Actually, I had a quick search on the internet to see if I could find a video from someone else on how to take better photos and found this one:

In fact, the author’s opinions are somewhat similar to mine. Which is good (I think!).

The images will heavily influence how people out there perceive your take on photography. Whether you’re likely an amateur or a seasoned pro. Remember, the world wide web is out there for everybody to see. So don’t skimp on using awesome looking and professional images to upload to your website.

It’s Now Easier Than Ever…

May 20, 2016 By Admin Leave a Comment

When it comes to taking awesome and memorable shots, it used to be for the professionals… those with many years of photography experience. The manual adjusting of exposure time, the know how of when to make it a “panaroma” shot or the close action shot. But if you ask the generation now, many would simply not understand. Why? Well they live in the “now” world. Where everything is pretty much automated or at the very least semi-automated. So there is no doubt that it is now easier to take a quality photo than ever before.

Enter the modern era: where buttons and touch screens run supreme! It’s not just what you can see is getting fancy, but the inside of cameras is getting more and more sophisticated. There’s always a good side and somewhat bad sides to everything. For example, modern cameras are easy to operate with many pre-installed settings – making it easy to simply point and shoot in any kind of situations. what’s the bad side you may ask? Well, let’s start with the price. What are you paying for to own these highly sophisticated device? Most of the time, you’re probably paying too much. Not because the cameras are no good. But because you are simply under utilising the device. Although  they come with preset settings, they can be operated manually to fine tune it prior to taking the shot.

But let’s not nit pick about all of this. Overall, everyone is a winner. Beginners get to “point and shoot”, whilst professional get to fine tune the settings manually as before; but digitally. The real winner is the high definition output. As long as the subject’s focus is not too far out, the finish will nearly always look mint. Hands down. Compared to the old days of black and white dark room printing.

Let’s put things in perspective. Yes, we mentioned that the finish quality is amazing. But one thing that can never be automated, not even using a highly sophisticated device… which is the choice of the subject focus. That is, what should you take a snapshot of that will make great photography? Only an experience photographer can make the right choice that could win awards.

As mentioned before, there is a ying yang effect to everything in life. Lesson learnt. Take away message received!
